A step-by-step guide to flipping Walmart clearance: finding deals, checking profit after Walmart's fees, and avoiding the mistakes that eat your margin.

Reselling Walmart clearance means buying marked-down items, in stores or on Walmart.com, and selling them for more, often on Walmart Marketplace itself. It works when the discount is big enough to survive Walmart's fees, and the item still sells at a good price online.
In stores, check end caps, clearance aisles and seasonal sections, especially right after holidays. Online, sort categories by price and look for items priced well below what other sellers charge. Toys, home goods, beauty and seasonal items are common clearance categories.
For every item, check four things before it goes in your cart:
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Profit after all fees | A 50% markdown can still lose money after the 15% referral fee and WFS fees. See how to calculate Walmart profit. |
| Max buy cost | The most you can pay and still hit your target ROI. If the clearance price is higher, pass. |
| Who holds the Buy Box | If Walmart itself sells it for less, you'll struggle to sell at your price. |
| How many sellers and how fast it sells | Lots of sellers on a slow item means price cuts and storage fees while you wait. |
If you use WFS, follow Walmart's packaging and labeling rules. Walmart charges $0.65 per unit to fix a missing or wrong label and $0.80 for a missing or wrong poly bag. Check the WFS fee chart so the fulfillment fee is already in your math.
A toy is on clearance for $10.00 and sells on Walmart.com for $24.97. After the 15% referral fee ($3.75), WFS fulfillment ($4.95) and a month of storage ($0.08), you keep $6.19 per unit, a 62% ROI. At $13.00 on the shelf, it would only make about $3.19, and above $16.19 you'd lose money.
The Margenos scanner app shows these numbers when you scan a barcode in the store, and the Chrome extension shows them on Walmart.com listings.

Yes. Many resellers buy Walmart clearance in stores or online and resell it on Walmart Marketplace or other sites. Check that the item isn't in a restricted brand or category and that it's still profitable after fees.
Subtract the Walmart referral fee (usually 15%), WFS fulfillment and storage fees, and your cost from the price the item sells for online. A scanner app like Margenos does this when you scan the barcode.
Look for an app that shows profit after Walmart fees, ROI, the maximum you should pay, and who holds the Buy Box. The Margenos scanner app and Chrome extension show all of these.
Many states let resellers use a resale certificate to avoid paying sales tax on inventory they resell. Rules vary by state, so check with your state's tax agency.
Walmart's referral fee, WFS fees, the extra $1 fee on items under $10, storage and price drops from other sellers can wipe out the discount. Always check profit after fees before buying.
